Sustainable fashion builds on the concept of sustainability, which advocates a more environmentally-friendly approach to designing, manufacturing, and consuming clothes. Also, it urges fashion industries to shift from the unsustainable business model of overproduction, overconsumption, and exploitation of labour. However, the term “sustainable” is commonly used as a way of greenwashing. An overhaul of the dominant business model is needed to create a truly sustainable fashion industry. To combat greenwashing, policymakers have been working on the regulations of the usage of terms in marketing.
